The Hamilton and Northwestern Lines originally went across Southern Ontario from Hamilton to Barrie. They were then extended from Hamilton to Port Dover. This line was to provide Hamilton, at the head of Lake Ontario, with a broader hinterland, from Lake Erie to Lake Simcoe. Parts of this line are still in use but much has been abandoned. These pictures show various places and were taken over a 25 year period from about 1993.

Update May 2021. The north end of the track at Beeton operated by the South Simcoe Railway was sold and the track lifted so housing can be built.

Originally it was the Centreville station and later known as Albion Station. It’s original rail line was the Hamilton & Northwestern. The station was located on the Gore Rd (4th line) just north of Old Church Rd (20th sideroad)
The paved pathway is on the alignment of the Beach Sub on the east side of the Burlington Ship Canal.
This picture was taken in Burlington where the Beach Sub joins the main line Oakville Sub in October 1994. The tracks were likely realigned in the mid 1960's when the Milton Sub was upgraded as the Halton Sub when the new Concord yard was opened.
March 30 2008. We found were the Beach Sub had been pulled up. There were still piles of ties awaiting disposal.
This station building was built by the Grand Trunk Railway where the Hamilton and Northwestern crossed its line. It was moved away from trackside to the Burlington Fire Department property. It has been restored.
The Halton Sub is CN's mainline to Toronto from Chicago and other US points. In 2015 there was a grade separation at Derry Road in Milton. Former branchline to mainline.

A trail that skirts to the west of Georgetown but east of Trafalgar Road had the appearance of an old railway right of way. This could be a spur of the HNW
March 2006. There was a pocket track or siding on the Halton Sub at Lower Base Line that could have been for helper engines.
The CN Halton Sub is the Hamilton and Northwestern line between Burlington and Georgetown after upgrading. We are looking north. The Scotch Block Resevoir was built nearby and this track possibly curves around there.
This is the second station ; not built by HNW but by GTR after takeover. The HNW built station was converted to a tool shed and razed in 1964.
The Halton Sub was routed around the town of Milton on an embankment but the older tracks were left in place in a park in town,
The single track is the former Grand Trunk line to Kitchener where it joins the Halton Sub. We are facing to Georgetown and Brampton. The dual track line comes from Milton. The Halton sub is the former HNW after being upgraded.. Picture taken late January 2005.
