VIA RAIL CANADA acquired some used railway cars from England that had originally been built for service through the "Chunnel", the tunnel beneath the Englsih Channel to continental Europe. This was a typical Canadian way to try and improve the passenger fleet on the cheap. Ontario Northland had imported European train sets in the past. VIA called these the RENAISSENCE FLEET and ran a train set to show them off.
This is from the stop in Oakville Ontario.
Today, 2019, these cars are in limited service between Montreal and Halifax and between Montreal Quebec and Ottawa. Most of the British cars were never converted to Canadian specs.
